As artisan businesses become more self-sufficient, Noah’s Ark takes on new families. Since the company’s inception, about 20 artisan workshops have become independent. Starting in 1986, in one room of a family house in Moradabad. Samuel Masih observed that exporters and middlemen were taking advantage of handicraft artisans. He started Noah’s Ark to promote these artisans and their crafts. He started working as a mentor, providing business advice and product design ideas, yet his main goal was to help them earn a liveable wage. While he continues to provide one-on-one help for artisan family businesses, he focuses the majority of his energy in helping to establish market connections.
