Connecting The Community To Local Food
There are numerous immediate and long-term benefits to providing youth with access to nutrient-dense food, an essential component to growth and development. We believe school gardens provide students with a real-time, hands-on experience to learn how healthy food is grown. Community and school gardens connect students to their food source and build life-long skills that teach responsibility and nutrition while strengthening ties between the school and the community.
Blue Atlas provides tailored solutions, considering the environments and needs of those who reside where we choose to work. We customize our growing methods to ensure they work for the school, considering conservation, and climate-smart approaches and ensuring our future farmers gain experience in the new technologies most applicable to them.
Similar benefits come with community gardens. They provide space and support for communities to come together and grow food for themselves and each other, creating more resiliency and access to nutrient-dense, fresh food.
Upcoming Initiatives
Ukraine
We will be visiting the region to assess the situation as rebuilding talks begin to see how we can provide support to meet emergency food needs as well as help farmers rebuild.
The Caribbean Hurricane Season
It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of where. We are working with partner organizations and foundations to provide immediate support for supplies and assess farmers’ needs in the wake.
US School gardens
Bringing it home. We are beginning our first US based permaculture school gardens partnering with communities that have been deeply impacted by the opioid crisis to help in the nurturing and rebuilding of communities.
